General Notes

This website is a personal academic website and research blog. It does not use advertising trackers or analytics services. Personal data is processed only where necessary to provide the website, protect it from abuse, respond to messages, operate comments, or remember settings you choose.

Access Data and Server Logs

When you visit the website, the web server may automatically process access data such as your IP address, date and time of access, requested URL, referrer URL, browser and operating system information, HTTP status code, and transferred data volume.

This processing is necessary to deliver the website, maintain technical reliability, and investigate misuse or security incidents. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for operation and security; security-relevant records may be kept longer until the incident has been resolved.

Contact by E-mail

If you contact me by e-mail, I process your e-mail address, message content, and related metadata to respond to your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. If your message relates to a contractual or pre-contractual matter, the legal basis may also be Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Messages are retained for as long as needed to handle the request and any follow-up, then deleted unless legal retention obligations or legitimate documentation interests require longer storage.

Comments

If you leave a comment, WordPress processes the information entered in the comment form, including your name, e-mail address, optional website, comment text, IP address, and browser user agent. This is used to display your comment, prevent abuse, and moderate spam. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Approved comments are public together with the name you provide. Your e-mail address is not published. Comments and related metadata may remain stored until the comment is deleted or until continued storage is no longer necessary for moderation and documentation.

Akismet Anti-Spam

The website uses Akismet to check comments for spam. Akismet is provided by Automattic Inc. For spam detection, comment data and technical data such as comment content, name, e-mail address, website, IP address, user agent, referrer, page URL, and form interaction data may be transmitted to Automattic.

The purpose is to protect the website from spam and abuse. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Automattic may process data in the United States and other countries. According to Akismet, most spam-related data is kept for short retention periods between two weeks and ninety days.

Cookies and Local Storage

The public website uses only limited technical storage.

  • If you choose the theme switcher, your browser stores the selected light or dark theme in local storage under mamdouh-color-theme. This setting remains in your browser until you clear it or change the theme again.
  • If you comment and select the option to save your name, e-mail address, and website for next time, WordPress stores comment cookies in your browser based on your consent. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG.
  • WordPress may use strictly necessary technical storage for security, comment handling, or browser feature checks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and, where applicable, § 25(2) TDDDG.

You can delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings at any time.

Search

If you use the site search, the search term is transmitted to the website to display matching results. Search requests may also appear in server logs. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

External Links

The website links to external profiles and resources, including LinkedIn, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, ORCID, DOI publishers, and FAU pages. Data is transferred to those providers only when you click an external link or otherwise contact them directly. Their own privacy policies then apply.

Recipients

Personal data may be processed by hosting and technical service providers to operate this website. Comment data may be processed by Automattic/Akismet for spam protection. E-mail data may be processed by the relevant e-mail service providers involved in transmission and delivery.

Your Rights

Subject to the legal requirements, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future.

To exercise your rights, contact: admin@mamdouh.de
